Overview

Welcome to the Web site of the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO).

VISION:

Colorado will have an effective statewide system for electronic health information exchange used to promote and protect Coloradan’s health and continuously improve the quality, cost-effectiveness and accessibility of health care services.

MISSION:

Implement and sustain statewide interoperable health information exchange through a non-profit organization that provides services and facilitates the application of standards and shared investments in technology for the benefit of all Coloradans.

Overview:

CORHIO is a not-for-profit regional health information organization that has the mission to provide state-wide health information exchange for individuals, health care providers, agencies, organizations and community leaders across Colorado.

Hundreds of regional and community-based health information exchange efforts are under way nationwide as part of a broad agenda for health care system transformation. Currently, most health care records exist either largely on paper or in isolated electronic silos, in multiple locations, meaning patients and their providers have incomplete information upon which to make important treatment decisions. This lack of access to important health and health care information leads to costly duplication of services, medical errors and negative health effects, including deaths.

By working together to develop an electronic health information network that is supported by and benefits all Coloradans, CORHIO will enable Colorado’s doctors, hospitals, patients and public health professionals to share health information and have access to vital health information when and where they need it.

Formerly known as the Colorado Health Information Exchange (COHIE) Project, CORHIO is working to build Colorado’s capacity for state-wide health information exchange based on a federated, web-based model.  The goal is to create a low-cost and self-sustaining service, which accommodates diverse platforms, systems, needs, resources, and affiliations.  As Colorado's statewide exchange CORHIO will synergize with the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN).  This federated model is neither a data repository nor a comprehensive electronic medical record.  Data "lives" at its point of generation and will be shared through CORHIO's hub when needed via a secure and confidential process.  CORHIO provides the mechanism to transfer and aggregate into meaningful information for clinical decision making.
