Preferred Vendors
Due to evolving federal incentive requirements and rapid
advancements in technologies, the process of evaluating products
and vendors will be ongoing. As new vendors become approved, CO-REC
will list their names on this website. More about the process of
selecting vendors is described below.
Approved EHR Integration Products
The
list of products and vendors was announced December
15, 2010.
Why the Approved EHR Integration Vendor List Is
Important to Physicians and Other Providers
If you are a physician, mid-level practitioner or other provider,
the approved EHR integration list is designed to help you when you
are ready to buy and implement an EHR system. There are hundreds of
vendors offering EHR systems today - unless you are a technology
expert, it is difficult to know which systems are offering the
features and capabilities that will make your practice successful,
including helping you meet 'Meaningful Use.' Unfortunately, some
systems being marketed and sold today do not adhere to industry
standards and are not capable of being interoperable with other
systems. This is crucial for stages 2 and 3 of 'Meaningful Use'
which go into place in 2012. (please read a recent article from the AMA on this topic
for more information)
Additionally, some EHR vendors are selling their products
without completely informing the purchasers of additional fees that
may be incurred past the initial implementation. Some are charging
exorbitant fees to connect (or "interface") an EHR system to a
Health Information Exchange (HIE).
CO-REC has conducted a thorough review of EHR vendor systems
taking into account the above concerns - as well as state and
federal regulations, incentives and penalties related to use of
health information technology (current and future). The purpose of
such a thorough evaluation is to provide you with a list of vendors
that you can feel confident purchasing from. The list will also
save you time because it provides a starting point for your
purchase research.
Minimum requirements for EHR systems and vendors include:
- Financially strong companies that can support the growth of
EHRs across Colorado
- Systems must meet Stage 1 'Meaningful Use' and be able to
demonstrate their commitment to meeting Stages 2 and 3
- Currently CCHIT certified or are able to demonstrate they are
actively pursuing new EHR certification standards
- Capability to exchange key data elements from one EHR to
another EHR or to an HIE
- Reasonable and honest pricing for the system including the
interface components
