More than 70 providers at the Boulder Medical Center, a multispecialty group that also operates an urgent care clinic, are now using health information exchange, in addition to an advanced electronic medical record system, to coordinate care for more than 200,000 annual patient visits. Through CORHIO’s secure electronic network, Boulder Medical Center doctors are now receiving laboratory results from hospitals and labs around the state without having to wait for faxes or other paper-based methods of communication. This is reducing patient wait times, helping doctors make faster and more accurate clinical decisions, and saving staff time previously spent tracking down patients’ medical records.

CORHIO announced today that SCL Health System’s three Denver-areas hospitals have successfully connected to its health information exchange (HIE) network. The three hospitals include Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge and Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver. Combined, the hospitals provide care to more than 100,000 residents and last year reported more than 160,000 emergency room visits, over 400,000 outpatient visits and 45,000 inpatient hospitalizations.

CORHIO announced today that Morgan Honea was selected by the board of directors to be its Executive Director. Honea, who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Plains Medical Center, will assume the executive leadership role with CORHIO on May 1, 2014.

CORHIO announced today that True North Health Navigation, the first mobile emergency medical unit of its kind in the state, is now accessing vital patient information through the health information exchange (HIE). While en route to non-life-threatening 911 calls, True North Health Navigation practitioners have access to complete patient medical histories, including recent treatments and medications. This allows practitioners to diagnose and treat patients with greater accuracy and safety while eliminating the cost of unnecessary trips to the emergency room.

CORHIO announced today that Kaiser Permanente Colorado has signed an agreement to participate in the state-designated health information exchange (HIE) network. Participation in the CORHIO HIE provides Kaiser Permanente’s physicians and other clinical caregivers with additional information on their members when care is provided outside of the health plan’s centralized network.
