Are You Prepared for Upcoming Meaningful Use Requirements (and Avoiding Payment Adjustments)?
Here are a few highlights on upcoming deadlines and requirements for the EHR Incentive Programs, the potential payment adjustments for not participating, and how CORHIO can help.
With the publication of the final rule of Meaningful Use late last year came clear marching orders for how eligible professionals need to comply with the program’s regulations and deadlines.
Here’s what you need to know for 2016:
- 2016 marks the last year Medicaid eligible professionals (EPs) can begin the program from the very beginning stage, called Adopt, Implement or Upgrade, or AIU, and still receive six years of incentive payments. This is because the Meaningful Use program payments end in 2021.
- In 2016, the EHR reporting period for eligible professionals will begin and end based on the calendar year. (Providers new to the program have a 90-day reporting period.)
- Payment adjustments for any eligible professional who does not successfully demonstrate Meaningful Use are underway, with CMS payment reductions starting at 1% and increasing each year the EP does not participate. These payment adjustments are or for the Medicare program only and are capped at 5%. (Learn more at Payment Adjustments & Hardship Information page.)
- The Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is administered differently by each state, and Colorado’s registration and attestation system website is not yet open so there’s still time to get prepared. Once it does open, you will have a 60-day window to complete your attestation.
