CORHIO is Hosting a Free, Half-day Seminar on September 27; Industry Experts Will Help Attendees Navigate the Pathway to EHR Adoption and EHR Incentive Payments

From conferences to news articles, at every turn health care professionals are being inundated with the term “Meaningful Use.” Many Colorado providers are trying to navigate unfamiliar territory on their own, but don’t know where to start. For those providers needing help selecting an electronic health record (EHR) system, or understanding or achieving Meaningful Use objectives, CORHIO is hosting a free Meaningful Use Boot Camp seminar on September 27. All health care providers and their office staff are welcome to attend.

Free Event Features Informative Sessions Led By Industry Experts

The Meaningful Use Boot Camp includes educational sessions hosted by industry experts, as well as an EHR vendor showcase featuring top national EHR vendors. Seminar participants will also have the opportunity to consult with David Ginsberg, the state’s leading authority on HIPAA Privacy & Security Compliance, and the co-founder and president of PrivaPlan Associates, Inc. This is a rare opportunity for providers to get free advice from Mr. Ginsberg, who is typically only available to providers who pay a fee to attend events he presents at.

Ginsberg will also host a special breakout session designed to walk participants through completion of the HIPAA Security Risk Analysis, and an understanding of how to correct deficiencies. “This is the 15th Core required objective for Stage 1 meaningful use and will be required for Stage 2, as well,” explained Ginsberg. “Attendees are also eligible to receive a license to the PrivaPlan HIPAA Privacy and Security Online Toolkit, (paid for by CORHIO) to assist them in completing this requirement.”

The half-day event is organized into modules, so participants can choose session topics that apply to their specific needs. The format is designed to maximize participants’ time.

By the end of the boot camp, seminar participants will be able to select the right certified EHR technology for their practice, complete a HIPAA Security Risk analysis as part of the 15 core measures of Meaningful Use, and understand how to incorporate Meaningful Use into their practice's workflow.

Meaningful Use Means Better Patient Care and Financial Incentives

By meaningfully using electronic health records (EHRs), providers can improve patient health outcomes by enhancing quality safety of care. For instance, two core EHR functions, electronic prescribing and patient medication history, can help reduce life-threatening events by avoiding adverse reactions to drugs. In addition, providers that purchase, install and 'meaningfully use' an EHR not only reap the benefits of an EHR system, but they can also earn up to $63,750 through the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program and additional funds through the Medicare.

The Meaningful Use Boot Camp takes place September 27 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Denver-Thornton (near I-25 and 120th Avenue).
