New Award Program Honors Health IT and HIE Innovators

This year, SMHA has established an awards program that recognizes health care providers in the south Denver metro area for advanced use of electronic health records and health information exchange (HIE) in a way that improves quality of care for patients. The awards also recognize health care professionals who are leaders and advocates for health information technology in the community. Award winners include Centura Health, Greenwood Pediatrics, Doctors Care, and Dr. Ellen Burkett from South Park Internal Medicine.

Awardees not only implement and utilize industry-leading technology to improve care for patients, but they are also viewed as collaborators, innovators and visionaries.

"We are so excited to recognize these important leaders and organizations in our community,” says Val Purser, South Metro Health Alliance Executive Director. “The award recipients showed a pioneering spirit by embracing Health Information Technology and Health Information Exchange amid this time of great change in our industry. With their visionary leadership and continuing support, we can realize better access to health care for all."

The SMHA Health IT & HIE Awards are recognizing organizations and individuals in the following categories:

  • Hospital or health system
  • Provider practice (outpatient)
  • Safety net clinic
  • Individual provider or community member
