Kelly Joines appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer for CORHIO

On September 13, Dr. Larry Wolk stepped down as CEO of CORHIO to take the positions of Chief Medical Officer for the State of Colorado and Executive Director at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Dr. Wolk will continue to serve CORHIO as an advisor and member of the Board of Directors. He will also retain his positions as Founder and Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics and as Clinical Professor in pediatrics at the University of Colorado.

“I view this as an incredible honor and opportunity to lead the state’s public health agenda, especially during this exciting time of health care reform and innovation in Colorado,” says Wolk. “I look forward to my participation as CDPHE’s representative on the CORHIO Board to continue to help advocate and support CORHIO’s key foundational role in improving the quality of healthcare and overall health in the state.”

Kelly Joines Appointed Interim CEO

Kelly Joines, vice president of HIE program operations for CORHIO, has been appointed by CORHIO’s board of directors as the interim CEO. Joines has been with CORHIO since it was founded in 2009 and brings to the position strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of health information technology.

“Under Dr. Wolk’s leadership, CORHIO has made significant progress in helping our communities realize the benefits and success of health information exchange,” says Joines. “Although CORHIO will miss Dr. Wolk’s leadership, we are excited to continue working with him in his new capacity, and we remain invested in expanding the benefits of HIE to more providers in the state and through expanded capabilities.”

Colorado’s HIE Network Growing Rapidly

CORHIO has experienced tremendous growth during Dr. Wolk’s tenure. All of the large hospitals and labs in our part of the state are either connected or in the process of connecting to the network. These hospitals and labs are sending in clinical data on more than half the population of Colorado. There are currently more than 2,500 office-based users accessing this data through CORHIO to improve clinical decisions, transitions of care, and general care coordination.

“Dr. Wolk opened many new doors for CORHIO and we are excited to continue building upon our success in standing up HIE across Colorado,” says Joines. “CORHIO’s staff is strong and extremely dedicated to our mission of improving health care through health information exchange.”
