The Colorado Care Connections Program, a partnership between CORHIO and the Department of Healthcare Financing and Policy (HCPF) has been expanded, making funds available to a large number of organizations to participate in the health information exchange.

The Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) is funding an effort to enhance the flow of clinical information through secure health networks for the purposes of enhancing care coordination, improving health outcomes and reducing costs attributed to unnecessary and redundant testing, hospitalizations, or delays in care that contribute to disease progression or avoidable complications. These funds are part of the national Medicaid expansion program, designed to increase the number of United States citizens who have access to health care.

Colorado’s two HIEs, CORHIO and the Quality Health Network are helping qualified practices and hospitals in the state to broaden their abilities to electronically share healthcare records.

Recent Program Expansion

As of November 2016, the program is opened up to any practice or hospital with a demonstrated referral pattern with a Meaningful Use eligible hospital or practice. This expansion will dramatically increase health information exchange participation throughout Colorado.

“CORHIO is thrilled to work with HCPF on this important program to not only expand health information exchange in the state, but increase provider participation in the Meaningful Use program,” says Kate Horle, CORHIO Chief Operations Officer. “The newly expanded Colorado Care Connections Program will have far-reaching benefits throughout our healthcare community and we are proud to be a part of it.”
